TBM for SCHOOLS

Helping Students in Public Schools

“Therapeutic Behavior Management for Schools” applies many key concepts of TACT2 to today's elementary, middle, and high school settings.

Although only 6-7 hours long, TBM/Schools offers valuable crisis prevention/verbal intervention skills for teachers, administrators, and educational support staff.

There are separate versions for:

 Grades K-5   (TBM/Elementary)

 Grades 6-12  (TBM/HighSchool)

TBM ELEMENTARY

“Therapeutic Behavior Management for Elementary Schools” (TBM/Elementary) is a 6-hour course in crisis prevention and verbal intervention skills, designed for staff of today’s safety-conscious elementary schools.  TBM offers staff a common language and skill-set when addressing both deliberate and emotional behaviors. (Last updated June 2023 with minor corrections).

Core content.  Intended to dovetail with commonly-used PBIS strategies, TBM/Elementary is based on a foundation of using both relationships and rules to manage misbehavior and deter emotional crises. The training offers essential information about childhood trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), which can impact students' behavior and availability to learning in school.

Optional physical skills.  While primarily a verbal intervention program, TBM/Elementary also offers an optional second day of training in age-appropriate physical holds and escorts for administrators and behavioral or security staff.

TBM HIGH SCHOOL

“Therapeutic Behavior Management for High Schools” (TBM/High School) is a similar 6-7 hour course in crisis prevention skills, designed for staff working older middle and high school students, grades 6-12.  (Last updated June 2023 with info about ACEs).

Core content.  TBM/High School places a strong emphasis on balancing rules and relationships when handling behavior problems. The training includes decision making in crisis, using consequences wisely, understanding childhood trauma, de-escalating emotional situations, and improving adult self-awareness.

Optional physical skills.  An optional second day offers training in safe but assertive physical holds and escorts for administrators and behavioral or security staff.

TESTIMONIALS

What Your Colleagues Have Said

“This training gave real, hands-on practice.  This program has a great balance of theory based and application based exercises.  I appreciated that we were able to practice the skills taught and that we could practice teaching the skills before bringing this to my school district.”

Jeremy M., Assistant Principal
Webster, NY

“The training provided great examples on situations we deal with within our schools.  It provides a hands-on approach when conquering these issues in our individual buildings.”

Ranston Chandler, Regional Director

“I appreciate Dr. Parese’s knowledge of the model and his ability to use different modalities (visual/tactile, etc.) to present information.  I feel I can lead my department in these strategies.”
